Creative Vibes conceived in January 1994 by three friends who met in a music store. The concept of the company was simple, it was created so Heidi Pasqual, Peter Pasqual and Gordon Henderson could get access to the labels and music they wanted for a wholesale price so then they could afford to buy more. The labels at the time in their distribution roster ranged from some of the best in the world Ninja Tune, Tru Thoughts, Stones Throw, Grand Central, Warp Record, Café Del Mar, Buddha Bar, Warp Records, !K7 (KnD Sessions, F Communications, PIAS).
In the mid 90’s Creative Vibes decided it was time to invest in the local music scene. The first project was Sydney’s DJ Avene and Fonke Knomaads producer and beat farmer DJ Soup’s ‘Dead Beat EP’. The roster grew over the years included Gotye (ARIA Award winning album through CVibes), PNAU (ARIA award winning album through CVibes), Fourth Floor Collapse, Itch-E And Scratch-E, Moonrock (Katalyst first group), Sheriff Lindo (Australia’s first Dub artist), EON (Rick Robison from DIG), Koolism (through Next Level Records), 2UP and many more.
The label was also lucky enough to have worked with some of the best local labels in Australia like Birdland Records (ARIA Award winners 2008 for Mike Nock), Instinctive Travels, Groovescooter, Jazzgroove, and Clan Analogue.
Creative Vibes decided to close its distribution arm in the summer of 2009 after the GFC hit, but with a eye to restarting the label sometime in the future. After almost a two year break, Peter Pasqual met with Sab Chase of Chase Management (also owner of MGM Distribution) to restart the label. The partnership is now in its first year and things are finally moving into high gear. The future feels and sounds exciting. The new signings on the label have been Laneous & The Family Yah (Brisbane’s West End wonders!), DJ Soup (rejoins the ranks with a new sounding direction), Bitrok (Brisbane production duo soon to be marking their mark !) and the mighty Enola Fall from Hobart.
Creative Vibes has also decided to reopen the channels to distribute – with MGM doing the warehousing and sales – and has partnered up with great labels like Twenty 76 Records (Rockets And Upskirts), Pear and The Awkward Orchestra (Brisbane), Alphamama (Sydney), Master Of Ribongia (Sydney), MSD (Sydney), Jess Ribeiro (Northern Territory) and Teinne (Hobart).
The future of Music in Australia is exciting and Creative Vibes is yet again exploring the frontiers of new scenes and exciting sounds to bring you music that will not only excite but challenge you! Stay tuned.
